Nett Furley - my story

non-religious funeral celebrabt

I've been a funeral celebrant for over 25 years. It's a wonderful job to have, to be part of something so special. Supporting bereaved families in the weeks that follow the death of a person important to them is immensely rewarding. I feel privileged to meet with family and friends and to learn about the life that has just ended.

What do I do when I am not working with people to create meaningful funerals and memorials?

I am an End of Life Doula, accompanying people who know their lives will soon be ending. I also work with the NHS to improve services.

But life is not just about work. I also love to do photography, arts and crafts, I go to lots of live music and enjoy walking in this beautiful countryside and coast. Playing the saxophone and spending time with my friends and family also keep me busy.

Humanism - a positive approach to life

I am a humanist. That's shorthand for the way I feel about life. I believe we should live a full and valuable life, using opportunities to learn new things and have experiences that enrich us. I live a fulfilled life through the things I do and the support of family and friends. I don’t need religion or supernatural beings to protect me; I am guided by my values – particularly respect for life. We only get one life. So, it's important to make the best of it - to make it matter and live it the best way we can.

What others say

"We would all like to say a very big thank-you for the beautiful ceremony that you led for mum yesterday, and how kind and empathetic you have been towards us all in our loss, and to mum, over the last few weeks."

"Everyone yesterday commented about how wonderful and fitting the tribute was, and dad, Andrew, Ben and myself have all said how special you made it for us all, we couldn’t have had anyone better than yourself, for Mum’s tribute."

Data Protection and Privacy Policy

As a celebrant, I receive personal information from you e.g. names, phone numbers and email addresses for the purpose of writing your ceremony script. Inevitably, a ceremony that best reflects your wishes and celebrates a life is, by its nature, personal. All information received by me is stored securely and is only used for the specific purpose of producing a personalised ceremony. It will not be passed on to or sold to any third parties.
Live ceremony scripts might be shared with a colleague in the event that I am unable to undertake a ceremony owing to illness or accident.
The personal information that you provide for the purpose of building a ceremony will be retained by me in case you require my services again and where such continuity is desirable. If you wish to have all your information erased immediately following a ceremony, or at any time thereafter, please get in touch by phone or email to confirm this and I will act accordingly
